On March 17 Nexus Fostering Partnership, together with the Club Financiero Genova organized at the Club the Roundtable “Women and diplomacy, experiences and contributions” moderated the Vice President of the Club Maria Luisa de Contes. The keynote speakers of the event were the ambassadors of Bosnia Herzegovina, Guatemala, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and Sweden, who were also named honorary members of the Club. We over 80 attendees during the roundtable.
The event, held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, aimed to capture the experiences and contributions of women in the diplomatic world, a traditionally male dominated world. The moderator began the roundtable by thanking the work of the ambassadors and launching a question that later had to be answer when it was their turn to speak: UN Women, the United Nations organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women, was created several years ago with clear objectives; today, would you say that these objectives have been met?
One by one, the ambassadors gave their answers and highlighted the need to achieve gender equality through greater participation of women in the workplace and public life, a change in education to achieve development, greater pragmatism and more power in decision-making in the arena of business, institutions, social and even within the family. They also noted the importance of changing attitudes of men and women, as it is a job that requires shared vision and perseverance. The event aroused much enthusiasm among attendees, who repeatedly applauded the interventions of the various Ambassadors.
